Health issues
Nathan suffers from a number of ailments; kidney failure, heart problems (the main reason why he can't dance), and a rare diagnosis called Severe Combined immunodeficiency (SCID). This essentially means Nathan is left with a defective immune system that is so suppressed that it's practically non-existent. He does all of his treatments where they aren't seen by the general public and he does wear medical alert tags around in neck, but he always wears them under his clothes so they won't be seen by everyone. Nathan knows it's only a matter of time before something happens and word about his frail health gets out, but he wants people to think he's as normal as possible.

Bi-curious/Romantically confused
Nathan has a humungous crush on his best friend Annie, but he's too insecure to tell her how he feels. On top of that, he's unsure if he's attracted to men as well; Having been so isolated, he never had the chance to find this out. He'll probably come out of the closet once he has it figured out, but if he ever does manage to 'fess up to Annie, he's certainly not going to let the media know.

Manic-depressive
Nathan was diagnosed with Bipolar type 1 when he was 13. Consequently, he suffers from random, and often dramatic mood swings. Normally, they don't last longer than a week or two, but there have been a couple times that he had been institutionalized for suicidal thoughts and actions, but these instanced have been very few and far in between. Anything he creates during these phases can very explicitly show his manic/depressive state of mind even if he only has one or two observable symptoms, but he never records them as he doesn't want to attract the wrong kind of audience, nor does he want his fans to think he's mentally unstable.

Nathan is a bit of an old soul when it comes to his tastes in music. He'd much rather put on some classic swing tunes than listen to today's latest hits. However, he's done some research and found a few artists that matched and/or expanded his horizons.

Personality: Nathan is a gentle spirited young man with a sometimes unhealthy lust for music. He's rather pleasant to have around, but he rarely speaks. However, just because he's silent, doesn't mean he's at all dark or mysterious. On the contrary, he's very warm, friendly and has a non-intrusive approach to matters that can put even the most timid person at ease. However, he's also a little bit of a neat freak and while he doesn't mean to, he can get rather snarky about cross-contamination.

Despite having a natural talent for making people get comfortable in his presence, you may have a difficult time getting him comfortable with you if you have a strong personality. Sometimes, he's easily intimidated and has a low self-esteem when it comes to intimate relationships. It seems he doesn't even think he'll ever get a girl at all, let alone the one he's somewhat-secretly in love with.

Living the vast majority of his life in isolation has made Nathan rather clueless about the real world (and, strangely enough, some modern technologies. For instance, he hasn't the slightest clue what a cell phone is). Consequently, he's easy to be taken advantage of, especially if you're older than him.

Background:
Nathan was an accident child, and was never really shown real parental love. He'd been living in the hospital for most of his life due to his immune system being so poor, and his parents, being wealthy German business folk, rarely came to visit him because for some reason, they saw it fit for him to be treated in the USA. When they did, they act. They gave him the necessary equipment and books so he could learn guitar. From there, his interest grew into a full blown passion, and he eventually asked for higher quality equipment and a laptop and some microphones so he could record and send them songs that he's written.

As Nathan grew older, he started to become more involved in the online music community, agreeing to put his creations for sale and even allowed them to take the funds as his way of saying thanks. He also grew more curious of the outside world, often
asking nurses that became family to him as well as his lone visitor (and the girl of his dreams), Annalise Bridges, questions about nature and what things such as snow and rain felt like. There have been a couple times when he managed to sneak outside long enough to feel the sun on his face, but the moment was usually short-lived as various bacteria invaded his system and he was stuck in the critical care for months at a time.

Recently, his parents have decided to pull him out of the hospital, but refuse to continue any of the treatments that essentially keeps him alive. Nathan, hurt and confused by the sudden decision, moved in with Annie instead. After changing his treatment plan so that he could live a much more normal life, she stumbled across an ad for PMG and encouraged him to go. She enjoyed Nathan's company, but she wanted him to go out and explore the world since he'd never had the opportunity to do so before. Plus, with him being so incredibly talented, she saw it as a waste to not let his music be heard by as many people as possible. This encouragement was enough to get Nathan to sign on.

Other:
Will speak if he needs to, but his voice is very soft-spoken unless angered (and it's hard to get him angry) or provoked. Otherwise, he'll speak through his body language, and he is very expressive through his face and body language.
Hair is naturally pink, and he's very self-conscious about it, as it used to be jet black before. He refuses to dye it back to his natural color, so he constantly keeps his head covered (usually with a fedora; Nathan adores fedoras) to make it much less noticeable.
Because he used to record his own songs, he's very knowledgeable with recording and mixing techniques.
Is a much better instrumentalist than singer, as that's where his interest really lies, but Annie unintentionally inspired him to become a singer instead, as she told him that he has a great singing voice. Having said that, when he does make a hit, it most likely won't have vocals simply because Nathan isn't really good at writing his own lyrics.
Before PMG, Nathan was fairly popular online as a light pop artist. It is unknown why he made such a drastic change in his style.
Is nearly as fluent in German as he is in English.
*As the creator, I honestly don't know a lick of German, so I'll be using Google translate if Nathan ever gets into a situation where he needs to speak German.
Has a habit of biting things very hard when stressed or thinking. His collection of chewed up pens and pencils are the reward for it. Thing is, if he doesn't have anything to gnaw on, he'll resort to biting his own fingers to the second knuckle until someone brings it to his attention or until he breaks skin and causes bleeding.
